UAE labour laws explained for Pakistani workers

DUBAI – The Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai has released a detailed awareness video to educate Pakistani workers in the UAE about their rights and responsibilities under local labour laws.

The guide highlights key aspects such as equality at the workplace, the importance of valid work permits, employment contracts, and the rules governing working hours and overtime pay. It explains that employers must bear visa and permit costs, pay salaries on time through bank transfers, and cannot dismiss women due to pregnancy.

Workers are entitled to 30 days of annual leave after a year of service, up to 90 days of sick leave, and end-of-service gratuity based on years of employment.

Employers must provide health insurance, accommodation, and a return ticket at the end of service, while employees are expected to work honestly and not take up other jobs without permission.

In case of unpaid wages, withheld gratuity or passport retention, workers are advised to file complaints through Tasheel Centres or contact the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation via the 80084 helpline, available in 18 languages.
